Chiku or Sapota/ चीकू

Chiku or Sapota (Achras zapota) cultivated in India for its fruit value, The fruit is a native of Mexico and other tropical countries of South America. Sapota is suitable in the states of Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya pradesh Chhattisgarh and Kerala.The fruit is mostly consumed indigenously. Export constituted only a very minor fraction of production.Alluvial, sandy loam, red laterite and medium black soils with good drainage are ideal for cultivation of sapota. Planting can be done in any season provided irrigation facilities are available. Grafts are usually planted in the beginning of the rainy season. In areas which experience heavy rainfall the crop can be planted as late as September.

चीकू या सपोटा (अचरस जपोटा) भारत में इसके फल मूल्य के लिए खेती की जाती है, फल मेक्सिको और दक्षिण अमेरिका के अन्य उष्णकटिबंधीय देशों का मूल निवासी है। सपोटा गुजरात, महाराष्ट्र, कर्नाटक, तमिलनाडु, आंध्र प्रदेश, मध्य प्रदेश छत्तीसगढ़ और केरल राज्यों में उपयुक्त है। फल ज्यादातर स्वदेशी रूप से खाया जाता है। निर्यात उत्पादन का केवल एक बहुत ही छोटा अंश होता है। जलोढ़, रेतीली दोमट, लाल लेटराइट और अच्छी जल निकासी वाली मध्यम काली मिट्टी चीकू की खेती के लिए आदर्श होती है। रोपण किसी भी मौसम में किया जा सकता है बशर्ते सिंचाई की सुविधा उपलब्ध हो। ग्राफ्ट आमतौर पर बरसात के मौसम की शुरुआत में लगाए जाते हैं। जिन क्षेत्रों में भारी वर्षा होती है, वहां फसल सितंबर के अंत तक लगाई जा सकती है।
